Berlin Snack: New at East Kings Cross - not East Berlin!

Kings Cross has a real Berlin Sausage Bar!

Update: The Berlin Food Company has ceased to exist in September 2008 lasting no longer than six months. The "imbiss" was plagued by low flow of people, and was forced to divert into a breakfast bar for local tourists before packing it in.



Foreword: "Berlin Snack" posed a dilemma to me. Should I a dedicated vegan promote a business dedicated to the sales of meat sausages? The true answer would be a total no, but then I met the owner, a charming young "Berliner," who promised me that soon there could be vegan sausages on the menu too - and as I will supply him here within with some vegan suggestions, there is hopefully no reason why one shouldn't, even though it is against some of my own fundamental principles. Given that unlike in Germany, the UK has the highest amount of vegetarians and vegans in Europe, owner Michael will open himself up to 30 percent more potential customers, if he had some vegan sausages on his menu. On other grounds - supporting local businesses - I do want to promote this new business at Kings Cross's South East. It is crucial for the area that businesses are seen and encouraged here, not just near St Pancras Station. With Konstam, Acorn House, and Kamagure, "Berlin Snack" fits right in, making all of Kings Cross a more adorable destination.



So what is "Berlin Snack" all about?
Michael Soboll and Toni Bibaoui the owners of Berlin Snack had the brilliant idea of treating Brits and anyone else in the area to the true German continental experience. And what is more Berlin alike than a proper "Curry Wurst" - eh that is sausage with cabbage (Sauerkraut) and pickled cucumber, curry and spicy ketchup. At Berlin Snack in Kings Cross along these Berlin carnivore treats are others, in fact any sausage you can imagine, set inside the bar full of trendy Berlin decor.

Backwurst (Backed Sausage) Fleischsalad (Meat Salad)

All those for about 5 quit in generous proportions served by a real Berliner, freshly made, and safe, unlike some of the sausages you get from elsewhere. In fact I had a non vegan friend test a curry wurst and her comment was "authentically German." Soon Michael and Toni will probably run German Techno or Berliner Music hits (Schlager) on the stereo and who knows there may be other gimmicks like souvenirs from Berlin. If he bothers to apply for an alcohol licence he may soon sell Berliner Weisse the famous Berlin beer. Certainly there is much potential in this!


So now in addition to a Bengoli Halal Butcher, a Portugese Cafe, a Turkish Fry Up, the local Thai and so on, we also have a real Berlin Würstchenbude here at Kings Cross. Also useful for those who need to improve their German language skills.
